Last week, I caught our Director of Engineering for AI in action — committing code—and I was both surprised and pleased.
Then I checked her internal GitHub profile and discovered she made over 4,000 commits in the last 12 months alone.
and she leads an organization of 400+ engineers around the world!
And yes, SHE-IS-CODING.
After reflecting on it, here’s what I concluded:
Great leadership isn’t about staying in an ivory tower.
It’s about flying at multiple altitudes.
At the executive level, she sets the execution vision, negotiates strategy, and manages critical production deployments for our customers.
But when the code needs attention, she dives deep, gets her hands dirty, and works on product development herself.
When challenges arise, she isn’t happy to delegate and disappear.
She refactors, debugs, and paves the way for her team to shine.
The best leaders are present in every layer, visible when the work is hard and empowering when it’s time to shine.
Next time you think about leadership, ask yourself: Are you ready to fly high and dive deep? | 96 comments on LinkedIn
